Professor Green has criticised a journalist who said he blamed rap music for the recent riots that have taken place in cities across the UK.
In an article for the Daily Mirror, Paul Routledge pinpointed what he called “the pernicious culture of hatred around rap music” as the source of the problems.
Rap music, he said, “glorifies violence and loathing of authority (especially the police but including parents), exalts trashy materialism and raves about drugs”.
“The important things in life are the latest smart phone, fashionable trainers and jeans and idiot computer games. No wonder stores selling them were priority looting targets,” he added, before calling for a ban of "poisonous rap".
Reacting to Routledge's claims on Twitter, Professor Green called the journalist an “absolute moron”.
He wrote: “Paul Routledge is an absolute moron. An absolute f*cking moron. Yea ban rap music, silence our voices even more. Ignorant prick.
“Surely this isn't about shifting the blame, but accepting responsibility? Neither my music or that of my peers is to blame for society and its faults. we didn't create the tiers.”
Meanwhile, rapper Plan B has also written an editorial for The Sun newspaper, in which he said young people needed more education to help prevent a repeat of the riots.
