Simon Cowell has conceded that he became “bored” of The X Factor's old format.
The musical mogul re-vamped the show in 2010 and has since gone on the launch the upcoming X Factor USA.
In an interview with the Daily Mirror, Cowell said he realised the show needed to change when at an audition in Glasgow in 2009.
"We got back on a plane. I was in a filthy mood. I thought, 'This show is boring. I don't want to do it any more'. Then I got an idea. I wanted to shoot the auditions in an arena, like concerts,” he said.
"That’s when it crossed my mind this show is absolutely coming to America."
The X Factor USA is due to start in September.
