The script for The Wolverine has been praised by influential Marvel writer Chris Claremont.
The X-Men writer praised both the script and its writer, Chris McQuarrie.
Claremont told Graphic NYC: "[I like it] very much. That's all I can say. Chris McQuarrie is brilliant."
The Wolverine is the sequel to Gavin Hood's 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolveine, and the new film is said to be based on Claremont and partner Frank Miller's 1982 Wolverine mini-series.
Darren Aronofsky was originally appointed to direct the Hugh Jackman film, but pulled out owing to family commitments.
He has been replaced by Knight and Day helmsman James Mangold.
The Wolverine is due for release in 2012.
