The red iron gates which inspired the lyrics for The Beatles' 'Strawberry Fields Forever' have been removed.
The gates at Strawberry Field, which is owned by The Salvation Army, have been put into storage at a secret location.
Fans who visit the Woolton site will now see replicas of the 100-year-old originals, reports BBC News.
Maj Ray Irving, director of social services for The Salvation Army, said: "Although care has been taken to ensure the original gates to the site have remained in good condition, inevitably time has taken its toll.”
Beatles star John Lennon wrote the 1967 song 'Strawberry Fields Forever' after playing in the area as a youngster.
