Green Day and Hollywood actor Tom hanks are set to produce a movie adaptation of the band's musical, American Idiot.
The movie, which will share the same name, has been picked up by Universal and will be directed by Michael Mayer
Mayer, who also directed the stage version, will work alongside screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, reports Reuters.
Hanks was behind the huge movie-musical hit Mamma Mia!, which featured songs by ABBA.
The Broadway version of American Idiot is set to close on April 21, with the band's singer Billie Joe Armstrong currently starring as in the production. It tells the story of the band's career.
