Elbow frontman Guy Garvey has described the success of the band's last album 'The Seldom Seen Kid' as “ridiculous”.
The album, released in 2008, earned the band a Mercury Prize, two Ivor Novello Awards and saw them named Best British Group at the BRIT Awards in 2009.
In an exclusive interview with Gigwise, Garvey said he was still overcome by the public's reaction to their fourth record.
“It was ridiculous. There was a piece of good news every day for a year - that we’d won an award or that somebody famous loved our stuff or that somebody wanted to work with us,” he said.
“There was good news every day for a year after 19 years of having barely any, so yeah, it was ridiculous. It was like, ‘God, it actually does happen still'.”
Garvey singled out the band's Mercury Prize win in 2008 as the highlight of the album campaign – and revealed that the success had been channelled into their new album, 'Build A Rocket Boys!'.
“Part of this record is still celebrating that if I’m honest, that’s another reason it’s retrospective because I’m very very proud of the lads,” he said.
'Build A Rocket Boys!' is released on March 7. You can read Gigwise's full Elbow interview now.
