Coldplay have been working on their new album with Ash star Tim Wheeler.
The singer is understood to have been invited into the band's London studio by frontman Chris Martin.
The pair are believed to have struck up a friendship after meeting each other on tour earlier in their career.
"[Martin] admires Tim as a songwriter, especially his brilliant way with melodies, so he didn't think twice about asking him to get involved,” a source told The Sun.
Coldplay have been working with producers Brian Eno and Markus Dravs on their new album, which is the follow-up to 2008's 'Viva La Vida and Death and All His Friends'.
