Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong To Star In American Idiot Musical

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is to join the cast of the band’s hit musical American Idiot on Broadway.

The singer will star as drug dealer St Jimmy for eight performances from Tuesday (September 28) until October 3.

Actor Tony Vincent, who usually appears in the role, is on leave until October 12 due to a family matter, reports the Associated Press.

Armstrong composed and co-wrote the musical, which is based on the band’s 2004 album of the same name.

The production has become a surprise hit at New York's St James Theatre, despite receiving a mixed response from critics.
