American Idol Winner Hospitalised Following Drugs Overdose

A former American Idol winner has been hospitalised after taking a drugs overdose.

Fantasia Barrino was taken to hospital in Charlotte, N.C on Monday (August 9), her manager confirmed.

Brian Dickens said the singer was “doing fine” and in a stable condition, and that the overdose was the accidental result of taking too much aspirin and sleep medication.

The incident comes just days after a lawsuit was filed claiming Barrino had broken up a couple's marriage.

The 26-year-old singer won the third series of American Idol in 2004.

She went on to receive eight Grammy awards and appear in the Broadway musical The Color Purple.
