Mexican singer Sergio Vega has been shot dead just hours after denying reports of his death.
The 40-year-old singer was killed as he made his way to a concert in Sinaloa state.
According to the BBC, several shots were fired at Vega’s red Cadillac, causing his to lose control and crash.
The singer’s death came just hours after he quashed online reports which claimed that star had been killed.
"It's happened to me for years now, someone tells a radio station or a newspaper I've been killed, or suffered an accident," he told La Oreja.
Vega was an exponent of the controversial narcocorridos music, which features lyrics that celebrate the lives of drugs barons.
