Prince will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Black Entertainment TV (BET) awards, it's been announced.
The singer will be recognised at the annual ceremony in Los Angeles later this month.
In a statement, Stephen G Hill, BET president of programming, said: "Prince is dynamic. Prince is genius. Prince is music.”
This year's nominations are led by Jay-Z with five, while Beyonce, Rihanna, Chris Brown and Alicia Keys also have nods.
Kanye West is expected to perform material from his new album at the ceremony, which will be hosted by Queen Latifah.
