Sex Pistols star Steve Jones paid tribute to Malcolm McLaren as the band’s former manager was laid to rest today (April 22).
Jones did not attend the funeral in London, but McLaren’s son Joseph Corre read out a tribute on behalf of the guitarist.
In it Jones joked about the band’s fall-out with McLaren over royalties before praising his former manager, reports The Independent.
"Dear Malcolm, did you take the money with you? Is it in the coffin? Do you mind if I come back tomorrow and dig you up?” Jones said.
"I always had a soft spot for you. You showed me a lot when I was 17 ... and I owe you a lot for showing me a different side to life."
As previously reported on Gigwise, McLaren’s funeral was the kind of flamboyant affair fit for a man who came to be known as the “godfather of punk”.
Mourners included his former partner Dame Vivienne Westwood, Adam Ant and Bob Geldof.
McLaren, who also briefly managed the New York Dolls, died in Switzerland earlier this month following a battle with cancer. He was 64.
