Ellie Goulding is on course to top the UK album chart with her debut album, 'Lights'.

The record is currently enjoying a 40 per cent lead over its nearest rival and current number one, 'The Fame' by Lady Gaga.

The Brits Critics' Choice winner's strong album sales come despite the record receiving a mixed response from critics.

'Glee: The Music Volume 1' is currently in third placin the midweek chart, according to the Official Charts Company.

New albums by Joanna Newsom, Jason Derulo and John Barrowman are also on course for a place inside this week's top-10.

Derulo's single 'In My Head' is the UK's current number one single.
