A Facebook campaign has been launched to get The Smiths' seminal song 'How Soon Is Now?' to number one in the UK.
The fetchingly titled group - ‘The Smiths How Soon Is Now? For No1 Meat Is Murder 25th Anniversary’ - has been set up less than a month after Rage Against The Machine's 'Killing In The Name' was propelled to Christmas number one following an anti-X Factor Facebook campaign.
As the title suggests, the group has been set up to mark the 25th anniversary of The Smiths' album 'Meat Is Murder' on February 11th.
Smiths fans are being urged to download the single from midnight on January 31st through to 23:59 on February 6th.
The founders of the group write: “Let's put real music back in the headlines and celebrate one of the UK's greatest bands ever.”
Currently the group has 7,100 members – quite a way behind the RATM4XMAS peak of over 1million.

- It looks we've gone from 'X Factor' to 'Yawn Factor'. It's the year where everyone will set up a Facebook group to get a song to number 1 in the charts. What started out as a pretty cool and exciting campaign has quickly turned into the biggest yawn.
PS: Good song choice though!

- Forget the gimmicks on this one its all about commerating one of the greatest albums of all time with a great song although what she said at no 1 would be special!

- its not just for the sake of doing it though, its a tribute to one of the greatest bands ever for the anniversary of one of the greatest albums ever! to Get the Smiths the no1 they never had yet so rightly deserve.

- Maybe this will make the record companies realise people still want quality artists with something to say and not barbie dolls whose only concern is how to stay thin...

- Calling someone with a good voice an artist is as absurd as calling a fart art.
