Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis has said the festival is spending more than ever, despite the current recession.
As well as building a new £400,000 reservoir, organisers are also allowing fans to split their ticket cost into separate payments.
Eavis, who founded the event in Somerset, told BBC 6Music he refused to cut back on spending “in order to keep ahead of everyone else”.
In a wide-ranging interview, Eavis also said he wasn't concerned that headliner Neil Young had also agreed to play other festivals in London and the Isle of Wight.
“I’ve been after Neil Young for thirty five years. We don’t pay them the same money, because they support what we’re doing,” he said.
“They know that we can’t afford proper rates, so I don’t mind them doing elsewhere. They have to.”
Young will be joined at Glastonbury by fellow headliners Bruce Springsteen and the recently reformed Blur.
The Glastonbury festival will take place from June 26th-28th. Tickets have already sold out.
