Little Boots has topped the BBC's Sound of 2009 list, which previews the acts to watch in the year ahead.
The electro-singer, whose influences include David Bowie and Kate Bush, was the most popular choice among 134 music critics.
"It is amazing that so many people want to write about me and give me opportunities, and I'm so grateful for that," Little Boots told the BBC.
White Lies – one of Gigwise's tips for 2009 – came second in the list, while Florence and the Machine was third.
The rest of the top-five was completed by Empire of the Sun and Lady GaGa.
