Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Keidis is to turn his autobiography, Scar Tissue, into a new American drama series.
Unlike the book, which focuses on Keidis' upbringing in Los Angeles and relationship with his father Spider, a drug dealer in the city, the series will be an off-beat comedy.
The programme, produced by Marc Abrams and Michael Benson, will largely examine the 1970s rock scene in America.
Speaking told Daily Variety, the singer said: "I love mulling over all this raw material. [My father is] into it too. He sees it as our last great hurrah.
“For us to be reconnecting to construct these memories – the women and the rock bands and the doormen of these clubs – is exciting."
Abrams called the series, which will air on HBO, “a special project”.
"To be able to look at a very famous figure and get an origin story, to see the pieces of the puzzle that put him on the path to fame – it became very clear that this was a special project," he said.
As previously reported on Gigwise, Red Hot Chili Peppers are currently on hiatus.
