Bruce Springsteen left many in tears yesterday (November 2nd) as he performed at a rally for Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama in Ohio.
Springsteen, who has been a passionate supporter of the candidate from the outset, led a crowd of 80,000 people through his own hits and covers, including Woody Guthrie's folk classic 'This Land Is Your Land'.
But it was the singer's performance of 'The Rising', which refers to the September 11th attacks, that stirred the most passionate response from the open-air crowd.
"So I don't know about you, but I want my country back, I want my dream back, I want my America back," the singer told the crowd.
He added: "Our social contract has been shredded. We're going to need all the angels we can get. Senator Obama's efforts to build a house big enough for all our dreams."
'Tell America's Story'
As Mr Obama took to the stage following the singer's performance, he paid tribute to Springsteen, describing him as one of "a handful of people who enter into your lives through their music and tell the American people's story."
"Bruce Springsteen is one of those people," he said.
Springsteen has continued to wow crowds across America as the presidential race has accelerated towards its eventual climax tomorrow.
