  • Universal Music Publishing are involved in an ongoing legal battle over a video on YouTube which shows a toddler dancing to a song by Prince, it has emerged.

The baby's mother, Stephanie Lenz, uploaded the clip onto the video sharing website in February 2007 but it was removed following an copyright infringement claim from the music company.

The video, which features a clip of Prince's 'Let's Go Crazy', was later reinstated after the mother objected, saying she had posted it for family and friends.

But Universal maintained that it was within its rights to ask for the 29-second video to be removed under the the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

The case is currently the subject of ongoing legal action in the US.

According to the BBC, Ms Lenz, who has been backed by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, believes she is entitled to use the song under a “fair use” clause in the law.

As previously reported on Gigwise, since he performed in London last year, Prince has taken a hard line on the publication of his material online,

In November 2007, a number of fans complained that they had received letters asking them to remove images and memorabilia attributed to the star from their websites.

    • Class A wanker! I believe he has a right to protect his music, but this is not about his music, it’s about a baby dancing. The fact that the baby has bad taste is also not an issue here ;)
