Newly reformed Scot rockers Simple Minds have revealed they could release two new albums because sessions in the studio have been going so well.

Frontman Jim Kerr explained to the Daily Record: “The writing sessions have somehow taken over our entire lives, but they have worked out perfectly.

“I am having difficulty in remembering the last time we had such an abundance of material prior to recording.

"We may even have enough songs of sufficient quality for two albums.”

The original line-up only announced in July that they would be working together for the first time in 27 years and fans will be over the moon to hear that they may get even more then they bargained for.

There are no plans for releasing a double album of the material and the first album is pencilled in for an early 2009 release.

The band will play the Nelson Mandela birthday concert this Friday at Hyde Park before heading out on a short UK tour to celebrate their 30 years in the industry.

Kerr added: “It is just as well that we seemingly have enough energy to see us through it all; undoubtedly we are going to need it.”
