In the tidal wave of post-punk-funk-disco-whatever that has swept through the indie scene in recent years, it’s easy to have missed some of the talent for the pretenders. However, one of the names shining brighter than most is LCD Soundsystem, the brainchild of James Murphy.
As resident of the Big Apple and one half of the prolific DFA production team, Murphy has overseen the recording of records such as The Rapture’s ‘Echoes’, as well as donating his remixing skills to a long list of bands, but he’s saved his best tricks for LCD. It’s an addictive hybrid of electro, disco, punk rock and Sixties psychedelia...think Prince getting it on with Black Flag.
Following the release of some steaming-hot 12”s, the debut self-titled album dropped in January 2005 backed by the huge ‘Daft Punk Is Playing At My House’ single. But if you want to get the full LCD Soundsystem experience, you need to see them live where Murphy is backed up by members of !!!, ex-Sabres of Paradise and more for a heady, sweaty, cow-bell rocking experience.
