After the controversy surrounding the offensive ‘Tsunami Song’ broadcast by Hot 97, crew member Todd Lynn and producer Rick Deldago, who created the song, have both been fired for offensive racial comments made on-air.

After an internal investigation, Hot 97 and their owner, Emmis Communications, have decided that the actions of Lynn and Delgado justified termination, reports AllHipHop.

Hot 97 angered many listeners and received thousands of complaints after playing a parody of the 1985 famine relief song, ‘We are the World’. The new version of the song included the lyrics:

“You can hear God laughing: ‘Swim, you bitches, swim’.” Another line jokes that the wave “washed your whole country away” and makes reference to “screaming chinks".

As previously reported presented Miss Jones, DJ Envy and a production assistant were suspended for two weeks with their wages being donated to tsunami charity, Give2Asia.

Miss Info, the other member of the morning team was not suspended but has been held off air. Miss Info apparently expressed her disapproval of the song but was met with disparaging remarks from Miss Jones and Lynn who said: "I'm gonna start shooting some Asians.”

Rick Cumming, President of Emmis Radio has said: "The actions of the morning show crew were socially and morally indefensible and the entire Emmis family is ashamed by this. Our decision to terminate Mr. Del Gado and Mr. Lynn while suspending the other members of the morning crew sends a message that this type of insensitivity is utterly unacceptable."

New York City Councilman John Liu was critical of the decision telling the New York Daily News: "Their statement is a joke. They need to fire Miss Jones, but even more important, they need to accept corporate responsibility."
