Art Brut have questioned EMI’s “curious new marketing stratagem” after the record label released their new single without informing band members.
‘Pump Up The Volume’ was released as a download-only single this week and is accompanied by a video filmed live in Australia.
“Attention, the Internet!! It seems Art Brut have accidentally released a single,” a message reads on their website.
“But how could this happen, you may ask? Why were we not informed? Why was it not available in my local record shack, thrust pride of place along side the latest View recording?”
The band have accused the label of incompetence over the manner of the release, saying that is has made “any kind of wide scale promotion rather difficult.”
EMI’s actions have come under intense scrutiny since their £3.2billion takeover by private equity firm Terra Firma last year.
In an announcement last month, new owner Guy Hands revealed that the loss of nearly a third of the label’s workforce would form part of a rescue plan.
