Smashing Pumpkins Fans Slam 'Dire' O2 Arena Show
What was meant to be the pinnacle of The Smashing Pumpkins’ UK tour, Saturday night’s show at London’s O2 Arena, has been widely panned by fans and critics alike.
Gigwise has received a number of messages from concert-goers, with some labelling it as the “worst gig in a long time” and “self-indulgent crap.”
Despite the strength of the set list which included the likes of ‘Tonight, Tonight’ and ‘Stand Inside Your Love’, it was the band’s lacklustre delivery and lack of atmosphere that made for the disappointing show.
One fan, Juliet, wrote: “Crap view crap atmosphere. Had much better fun putting their CD’s on the new Bose system in our local pub up loud later that evening having left the gig early. Love the band but not the arena, would love to see them at Shepherds Bush Empire.”
A clearly disappointed Topha commented: “I hate to say it but I believe this was the worst gig I have been to in a long time. Over the past four years I have seen about 160 bands, and for the first time I felt totally cheated.
“I saw the pumpkins in 2000 on what was meant to be their final tour before splitting up, and they were amazing, but this time I felt robbed. I had a standing ticket and was pretty close to the front, and the sound was great as was the crowd. It was just the band that sucked.”
Perhaps summing the sentiments up simply, Julie wrote: “Just dire, absolutely dire.”

The Worst Teeth In Music - Part Two
- I watched them the night before at the MEN and they blew my head off. Definitely one of the best bands I have ever seen, I cant speak for this night, but they rocked Manchester.

- Yeah, they were indeed awesome at Manchester!
Unlucky fuckers!

- Hate the o2 arena, but what a fantastic performance! We had seated tickets about a million miles from the stage, yet it still felt like an intimate, involved gig.
’United States’ was total guitar armageddon, and the twin attack of ’Bullet With Butterfly Wings’ and ’Everlasting Gaze’ demonstrated that Messrs Corgan and Chamberlin are insanely talented individuals.
Don’t believe the naysayers. Pumpkins ROCKED!

- Well I was also at the O2, and I thought they were freaking awesome. Played a lot of ’the classics’ including several interesting choices, and the tracks taken from Zeitgeist generally worked surprisingly well. Billy had a good rapport with the audience and they all played senstatonally. It was an excellent gig.

- I saw them in Manchester too and have got to echo Matt’s comments above - the band were really into it, Billy was joking with the crowd, they even played for 2.5 hours.
