Johnny Marr has been made a professor of music by a Manchester university.
The former Smiths man will host lectures at the University of Salford teaching students the ins and outs of the music industry.
The 43-year-old has temporarily moved back to the city after living in Portland, Oregon with his latest band Modest Mouse.
A spokesperson for the University confirmed his involvement and said the guitarist is “very excited” about the move.
It’s not his only brush with academia recently. Just last week he was in Dublin to receive an honorary patronage from Trinity College’s Philosophical Society for his services to music.
