If we see another ‘Save The Rave’ t-shirt, we’re going to be spew all over the orange slogan. It’s Sunday at Leeds and our adventures from the previous three nights are catching up with us, causing slight irritability towards our fellow festivalgoers. We’re finding that sizzling skin and white sunglasses patches around our white eyes are really not a good look and we’re not sure we can survive another day of sitting on the remnants of someone else’s dinner and queuing for ages to pee into a stinking hole in the ground. Getting into our sleeping bags wearing four hoodies in bitter cold and waking up baking hot in sweaty tents is playing havoc with our temperatures as we head towards the Main Stage with the chills.

Paramore are much more deserving than the pointless clapping we’re offering under a blanket between songs. Frontwoman Hayley Williams is doing her best to rouse the crowd from their Sunday morning comedowns and its actually working – just not on us. It’s always going to be tough for the first act on, but they’ve proved that they’ll quite possibly be climbing up the list of acts in years to come. The Dead 60’s and The Eagles Of Death Metal follow suit, clearly revelling in the spotlight. The Shins provide pleasant sunshine music as their floating melodies, primarily from their latest offering ‘Wincing The Night Away’, wash over us. They may be best known for their inclusion into the impressive Garden State soundtrack, which pulls much of the crowd but today gave them a chance there’s more to them than being Zach Braff’s favourite band.

Bottling of the weekend is reserved for Angels And Airwaves, who from where we’re standing, aren’t going down too well with the Leeds lot, who are booing. Panic! At The Disco may have learnt how to dodge the bottles after last year’s incident, but it’s former Blink 182’s Tom DeLonge’s band that the audience have it in for this time. Panic! At The Disco’s fantastically long titles bring a touch of theatrical drama to the day, as they strike up ‘The Only Difference Between Martyrdom And Suicide Is Press Coverage’. If any items are thrown, it doesn’t seem too seriously done - they’ve come back for another year and its good to know we haven’t completely scared them from UK shores. Courage, we like that.

Wearing 2007’s coolest item of merchandise (yes, hotter than the Leeds lighter and bottle opener in one), Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke is bearing a ‘Crystal Castles’ t-shirt as he opens with ‘A Weekend In The City’’s ‘Disappear Here (Song For Clay)’. Depending on where you stand in the arena receives a different sound quality, with our place towards the back getting a little patchy in places. However, it doesn’t affect the great energy of the band, as tracks like ‘The Prayer’, ‘Helicopter’ and, of course, ‘Banquet’ becoming glittering gems of the set we’ve been building up our energy for. Why, oh why, weren’t these boys up for the Mercury this year? We’re sure they’re thinking the same thing.
