More about:

In January this year The Who confirmed they were in the studio and would release a new album in 2019. Today (13 September) we finally get more details.

The 11-track album to follow Endless Wire (2006) is titled WHO and due for release on 22 November via Polydor records.

The album was co-produced by guitarist Pete Townsend and top-tier studio whizz D. Sardy (Oasis, LCD Soundsystem, Gorillaz). Vocal production was by Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers, Roger Daltrey, Wilko Johnson).

Even though we can only hear one track from it so far, it is expected to be quite an eclectic record. Pete Towshend said in a statement, released 14 January, to expect: “Dark ballads, heavy rock stuff, experimental electronica, sampled stuff and Who-ish tunes that began with a guitar that goes yanga-dang”.

The lead track streaming above is the powerful, emotive 'Ball And Chain', with lyrics about prisoners in Guantanamo Bay, is sung with such whole-hearted conviction.

As for those UK tour dates, The Who will hit the road in March and April 2020 and play the below cities. It will be an epic set backed by a full orchestra. Tickets to the gigs will most certainly go in a flash and go on sale at 10am 20 September.
