The absolute simplicity of ‘Funky Machine’, which contains around only 10 different lyrical lines, is at the core of its addictive genius. Some will deride its lack of imagination but the conviction of this Anglo-Swedish act in the song’s execution is superb. Unfortunately, singer Lara Granqvist isn’t so at home on acoustic lilting and doesn’t summon the pathos needed for the throwaway ‘Wish Everything’. ‘Funky Machine’ though is breathless bubblegum punk pop at its finest.
