More Nine Inch Nails

The effect of the current US government’s global policy on the world in 2022 (current album Year Zero’s supposed hidden concept) has certainly given Reznor a strength of form not seen since circa The Downward Spiral, which was released in 1994. The NIN front man’s acerbic, biting, snarl has made a forceful comeback in order to deliver somewhat indecipherable lyrics; perhaps Orwellian messages of a doomed, not too distant future? In Capital G, constant 80’s/00’s synth-drums introduce a plateau for vocal harmonies, guitar noise build-ups and metallic, pressure releasing sound effects. Formulated but insightful, Reznor’s anti-government slant is a definite step up from the unfulfilling pop noise which corrupted 2005’s With Teeth LP. Overall then a solid, but not outstanding NIN product, hinting that Reznor is on his way back.
