Hardly any of the Glastonbury festival 2019 line-up has been confirmed for the upcoming edition that sold out in 36 minutes. But it can't be long. The latest name that's bookies' favourite to headline in addition to Stormzy - and join already announced Kylie and Janelle Monae on the line-up - is The Cure
In making the 'Love Cats' and 'Friday I'm In Love' seminal post punk heroes top choice to take a headline slot, Betway’s Alan Alger said: “With Stormzy already announced, rumours continue to circle on who will be Glastonbury’s second and third headliners.
“The Cure are no strangers to the Somerset festival and we make them the 2/5 favourites to rock it out once again, with the market suggesting The Killers at 8/11 are likely to join them."
Rumours of the Cure playing Glastonbury started gathering pace when BBC 6 Music asked Robert Smith - who was promoting his Meltdown festival at the time - if they would. Smith's answer was:
“Yeah, maybe. We haven’t had a happy history with Glastonbury over the years. Although we’ve headlined three times, we’ve never been on the best of terms. I don’t know if they forgive and forget. There are enough other festivals for us to play.”
As for the second favourites, The Killers, they would go down well and have a good relationship with the organisers.
Gigwise caught sight of Emily and Michael Eavis attending The Killers' secret set on the John Peel stage in 2017 and holding the setlist with pride whilst listening. We felt back then it wouldn't be a surprise for them to give The Killers the top slot once again. If they get the Pyramid stage this year, here's to hoping the crowd are even more rambunctious and passionate than they were two years ago.
