There's some more Great Escape news in today, everyone. The salty sea dogs in Brighton have announced their first Spotlight Show for 2019, and it’s with lovely lad Lewis Capaldi, who was also recently shortlisted for the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award.
In 2017, Lewis’ song ‘Bruises’ claimed the most ever plays from an unsigned artist, with 25 million (it’s now at almost four times that!), and he’ll be bringing this and other new tracks to the Brighton Dome next May.
The First Fifty acts for the Daddy of inner-city festivals have already been announced; all of them having played across East London at the end of November. Gigwise faves Lucia, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Pip Blom and Wooze - who played live for us in October - are among the impressive roster, while another 400 new names are yet to be announced.
The other news coming in from the seaside is that The new-for-2018 Beach will be back again for more in 2019. Set up on the seafront, it’ll have three live music venues and other neat festival stuff right there on the sand. AIM House will also be back, bringing interviews, workshops and after-parties to The Queens Hotel, in association with Association of Independent Music, as well as music chairty Attitude Is Everything bringing their initial findings from their ground breaking initiative to empower Deaf and disabled artists to the event.
Plenty of news to keep us going over the Christmas period, which - though a welcome break - is fatally devoid of either gigs or festivals.
The Great Escape takes place between 9 and 11 May of 2019, with Lewis Capaldi playing his Spotlight show on the Thursday night. You can get your mits on tickets here.
