Following a stonking inaugural All Points East festival this summer just past, the main lineup has just been released for what looks set to be a triumphant 2019 return to east London’s Victoria Park.
The Chemical Brothers’ knockout fusion of gargantuan crowd-pleasing hits – ‘Hey Boy Hey Girl’, ‘Block Rockin’ Beats’, tonnes more – and top-drawer new material (‘Free Yourself’ was recently rated ‘Hottest Record’ by Annie Mac) always gets the big crowds going.
Hot Chip enjoy a similar place in the festival pantheon, with a solid roster of big tunes and the ever-present possibility they’ll pull on a surprise guest star of the calibre of David Byrne or Caribou.
Elsewhere on the line-up, Gigwise faves Primal Scream (read this interview from last week) prove they’re still going strong three decades in, Sweden’s Little Dragon show why they attract collaborators like Gorillaz and SBTRKT, and legendary space rockers Spiritualized are eager to bust out triumphant new album And Nothing Hurt.
Danny Brown – already-legendary auteur who’s worked with Kendrick Lamar and Earl Sweatshirt – keeps the hip-hop end up, while Ibibio Sound Machine bring some big-hearted 70s Nigerian disco vibes to the borough of Tower Hamlets.
The ten-day event will run from 24 May to 02 June 2019, and features a special four-day interlude where access to the site will be free, meaning locals can mooch around a free programme of entertainment (expect announcements next year), outdoor cinema, pop-up bars, theatre, sports and fun for kids.
This summer’s event saw banging headline slots from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The National, LCD Soundsystem, Bjork, The XX and Catfish & The Bottlemen – plus an astronomical supporting line up across two weekends of award-winning music.
Tickets go on sale at 9am, Friday, 09 November.
