What happens when you take Donna Summer flavour disco and merge it with English pop stylings? You get The International Teachers of Pop’s new video for ‘After Dark’. There’s a keytar, sparkly bodysuits, a guest appearance from actress Maxine Peake and general technicolour mayhem.
This motley bunch came together via chance meeting at a circuit bending workshop in South Yorkshire and includes Adrian Flanagan (The Moonlandingz / Eccentronic Research Council), Dean Honer (Moonlandingz / All Seeing I) and Leonore Wheatley (The Soundcarriers / Whyte Horses). Interestingly, The Moonlandingz evolved out of the Eccentronic Research Council, so the band’s members already have a long history together.
The song is a bit of a homage to the father of disco Giorgio Moroder, with Flanagan saying that he “... [loves] the boldness and sexiness of those records but I also love how fresh they still sound…” Indeed this new video from The International Teachers of Pop is very bold, with hooks left, right and centre. Have a listen and a watch, why don’t you?
The band’s first gig was in a cave in Derbyshire (named The Devils Arse) on special invite from the Lord mayor of South Yorkshire, who just so happens to be none other than Jarvis Cocker. We also enjoyed Flanagan’s other band The Moonlandingz’ back in 2017, which you can read about here for a taster.
The International Teachers of Pop are currently on a short and sweet UK tour, dates (sadly no cave options available) can be found below. Check here for ticket information
