Super Furry Animals Frontman Goes Solo

Gruff Rhys, star of Super Furry Animals has announced details of his forthcoming solo album.

The bands own label Placid Casual will release the album, entitled 'Yr Atal Genhedlaeth' (The Stuttering Generation), in January 2005. The album was recorded in Stiwdio Ofn with Gorwel Owen over the last two years.

All the songs bar one are originals by Rhys, the last track is a cover of a traditional Welsh song.

Speaking to the NME Rhys said: "It came together quite accidentally. I didn't initially plan to make a record.

"We're in a luxurious position as a band where we always have far too many songs anyway. Since we did 'Mwng', I've been collecting ideas for lyrics, and it took this long to get together.

"I'm considering splitting up after this record. I'm not sure exactly where, horizontally, or vertically."

In other Furry news, the band are currently recording their 7th album which is scheduled for release in spring 2005.

The Furries are also busy compiling a mix tape, the latest band to do so for the ‘Under The Influence’ range.

The band have all picked three of their favourite tracks each to create a truly eclectic CD and the ‘Mix tape’ will be available from to buy from January 31.
