You can always expect to be taken for a wild animated ride with every Gorillaz music video, and this brand new one for synth-poppy ‘Tranz’ is no exception. There’s something a little bit Adventure Time about this one, no? Watch on Gigwise below.
This one’s pretty surreal, even for a Gorillaz video. It’s the first ‘live’ performance from Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s virtual band, and although it doesn’t add much to the backstory of the Gorillaz fictional world, it’s a fun viewing.
On board with the animation, Gorillaz have specialists Blinkink and Parisian powerhouse Eddy, who bring together hand-drawn animation and that old-school favourite claymation. Remember Morph from SMart? It’s like that, about a thousand more years or so into the future.
Damon Albarn loves collaborating, it seems. Except if you’re Prince, and he tells you that you’re not allowed to smoke in his studio.
Jack Black was in his good books for latest Gorillaz album The Now Now though, featuring in the music video for ‘Humility’.
More recently, messrs Albarn and Hewlett have been hard at work curating Demon Dayz festival with what is potentially a great lineup, including De La Soul, Erykah Badu, Tony Allen, The Internet, Little Simz and Del The Funky Homosapien, among other big names. Oh yeah, and The Good, The Bad & The Queen album is incoming.
No UK tour dates currently, but who knows what the future might bring.
