Please, oh please, don’t listen to this song if you’re on the brink of tears, as it will undoubtedly push you over the edge. Sounding very much like a gospel song, without all the clapping and jollity, Mark Lanegan’s vocals are supported by a chorus of powerful voices. Asking the big questions – “why am I so blind with my eyes wide open?” – the song has an epic quality and could even pass as a hymn. ‘Blues Run The Game’, is as equally beautiful and soulful as ‘Revival’, but is unfortunately no happier. Reminiscent of Johnny Cash’s ‘Hurt’, but with a gentle piano and cello accompaniment, it will definitely give you the blues in every sense of the word.
