More Mad Professor Originally from Guyana, the Professor nee Neal Fraser moved to South London aged 13
The Professor was a lead producer on the Dub Reggae scene. At the time his label Ariwa, (the name is Nigerian for sound or communication) was hailed as the home to some of the finest Anglo Reggae acts of the generation. The growth of his reputation, lead to work remixing techno and rock acts. He was solely responsible for mixing the entire second Massive Attack album.
After complaints from his neighbours in Thornton Heath, the South American artist took his studios to Peckham, recording his first album, Dub Me Crazy, Pt. 1, followed by a second volume, and Beyond the Realms of Dub. In 1983 he recorded, The African Connection and Escape to the Asylum of Dub.
In the mid eighties Ariwa relocated to the respectable West Norwood. These were largest black owned studios in the U.K. He produced hit singles for many artists including Pato Banton. Reggae music continued to evolve, spawning Ragga, a fresher and more digital sound.
In 1993 the final of the Dub collections was released. Yet despite a slow on the dub scene his studios continued to churn out the hits and the Professor began working with some of the best known reggae artists of the time.
The quality of his productions earnt him respect from those outside the reggae and raga communities, and the Mad man began mixing rock, rnb and many other musical forms. Notably working with Jamiroquai, Depeche Mode, Beastie Boys and Sade.
In the 1990’s his success mixing the work of others lead to an increase in demand for his own work.
