Page began playing the guitar at the age of 13. Inspired by Elvis, the self taught guitarist joined his first rock group after leaving school. His time with ‘Neil Christian & The Crusades’ was cut short after a bout of glandular fever.
He became a successful sessional guitarist and producer working with bands like The Who, The Kinks and the Rolling Stones. For a while Page abandoned his session work, choosing instead to join the Yardbirds. Initially Jimmy was recruited as a bass player, later he teamed up with as a guitarist with Jeff Beck.
After leaving the Yardbirds, he set up Led Zeppelin who went on to become one of the most successful rock bands. They released a string of albums between 1969 and 1980. When the band split in 1980, Page disappeared from music altogether. He reappeared two years later and provided the soundtrack for Death Wish II and along with Eric Clapton and Beck took part in the A.R.M.S tour which supported MS.
In 1984 along with Plant, Beck, and Nile Rodgers Page formed his first band since Zeppelin. The group was nicknamed The Firm, there existence was short lived, and despite receiving a reasonable amount of success with their debut EP The Firm parted company.
Zeppelin reunited in 1988 for the Atlantic Records 25th Anniversary Concert at New York's Madison Square Garden. Former band mate John Bonham's son, Jason, filled in for his deceased father.
Plant and Page did reunite again in 1994 and in 1998 together they created an MTV Unplugged special and a sold-out world tour, and released the ‘Walking into Clarksdale’ album.
Page has two entries in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for Zeppelin and the Yardbirds
