Queen’s first Greatest Hits package has topped a survey of the best selling albums in the UK of all time.
The compilation, which was first released in 1981, has sold a staggering 5,407,587 copies over the ensuing years.
It was 600,000 sales ahead of The Beatles’ ‘Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band’ and more than a million ahead of Oasis’ ‘What’s The Story Morning Glory?’
Other artists in the top ten were Abba, Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson and Madonna.
The survey was conducted by music channel VH1 and collated the top 100 selling albums on these shores.
Robbie Williams had the most entries in the top 100 with six albums charting, while Celien Dion, Oasis and wacko Jacko all had three.
Surprisingly The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and The Sex Pistols all didn’t feature in the top 100.
Conversely, Robson and Jerome charted at 43, while Jason Donovan has the hundredth best selling UK album in the shape of 1989’s ’10 Good Reasons.’ Shocking.
The top ten looks like this:
1. Queen - Greatest Hits (5,407,587)
2. The Beatles - Sgt Pepper (4,803,292)
3. Oasis - What's The Story Morning Glory (4,304,504)
