Getting bottled off-stage at Glastonbury...

Lemonheads singer Evan Dando has recalled his lowest ever moment – when he got booed off stage at Glastonbury 1995.

Dando is now back with a new Lemonheads album and tour after years in the wilderness, but identifies that ill-fated appearance as the time he knew he needed a break from music.

After missing his scheduled slot in the midst of a battle against increasing drug dependency, Dando was thrust onto stage before a ‘secret’ appearance by local favourites Portishead – and was met by a volley of abuse and missles before the curtains were literally closed on him.

He tells The Sun, “I wanted it to end at that time. I was ready to step aside. It was the perfect moment as pop was getting huge.

“I don’t care about it now. I just missed a gig. They put us on when all my fans had left and Portishead were supposed to be playing. It was an interesting experience to say the least. You learn from mistakes like that.”

Your correspondent was one of those booing Evan off, and should note in our defence that we had been waiting several hours in a  very sweaty, very cramped tent for Portishead to come on - so weren't best pleased when a lack-lustre Evan was thrust out instead.

Glad to hear he's taken it as a learning experience though. Portishead were amazing, by the way.
