Snipereyes - 'Ballet Machine' (Thirstycat) Released 12/12/05

Leeds, your time is now. Snipereyes are yet another good band to come out of West Yorkshire, surprising the music hacks, perpetually waiting for the next big thing to emerge from the London/ Liverpool/ Manchester axis. First track ‘Ballet Machine’ hovers unusually in a musical somewhere between The Smiths and The Pixies (So about 1988 I guess) with just a tantalising hint of squealing 70s guitar which, without warning, morphs into shoe-gazing style slide. Next up, 'Song of Sun’, is similar but slower, squealing guitar replaced by acoustic, more keyboards, all together a little more relaxed. And we finish with ‘On three?’ going a just a tad funky and back to ‘lecky guitar. Still don’t know what a ballet machine is but more please.
