Beyonce has released a statement following the recent police shootings of black people, saying, “The war on people of colour and all minorities needs to be over.”

In the space of 48 hours, two black men were shot and killed by non-black police officers. The first - Alton Sterling - was selling CDs when officers wrestled him to the floor and shot him, while the second - Philander Castile - was stopped in his car and was said to have been reaching for his license when the officer shot him four times.

These were just the latest incidents in a long string of police brutality in America, which has seen black men killed disproportionately. In a statement on her website, Beyonce demanded that they “stop killing us” - a phrase spray painted onto a wall by a young child in her ‘Formation’ video.

She also paused her Glasgow show for an a cappella rendition of ‘Freedom’ and a moment of silence while the names of the victims of police brutality appeared on the screen behind her.

Beyonce’s UK and Ireland tour comes to and end Dublin tonight. See the date below. For tickets and more information, visit here.
