Nicki Minaj confronted Miley Cyrus on-stage at the VMAs last night after Cyrus publicly criticised Minaj for suggesting there was a race issue with the nominations.

Last month, Minaj tweeted: "If I was a different 'kind' of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well." She then added: "When the 'other' girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination. If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year."

In an interview with the New York Times, Cyrus was pressed for her opinion on Minaj's response, and said: "If you do things with an open heart and you come at things with love, you would be heard and I would respect your statement. But I don’t respect your statement because of the anger that came with it. And it’s not anger like, 'Guys, I’m frustrated about some things that are a bigger issue.' You made it about you. Not to sound like a bitch, but that’s like, 'Eh, I didn’t get my V.M.A.'

"If you want to make it about race, there’s a way you could do that. But don’t make it just about yourself. Say: "This is the reason why I think it’s important to be nominated. There’s girls everywhere with this body type."

She added: "What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It’s not very polite. I think there’s a way you speak to people with openness and love."

"I know you can make it seem like, 'Oh I just don’t understand because I’m a white pop star'. I know the statistics. I know what’s going on in the world. But to be honest, I don’t think MTV did that on purpose."

Last night (30 August), while accepting the Best Hip Hop Video award for 'Anaconda', Minaj turned to Cyrus and said, "And now, back to this bitch that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press. Miley, what's good?"

When Cyrus returned to the stage, she responded, "We all do interviews, and we all know how they can be manipulated. Congratu-fucking-lations Nicki."

Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus just surprise-released her new album, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, which you can download here.
