Founder member of Run The Jewels El-P has announced he will be composing the soundtrack to the forthcoming Tom Hardy-starring Al Capone biopic, titled Fonzo.
‘Fonzo’, by the way, is another nickname for the notorious Prohibition-era Chicago mobster, real name Alphonse.
The movie, which started filming in New Orleans earlier this month, is written and directed by Josh Trank, best known for Fantastic Four and Chronicle.
Tom Hardy, who previously showed off his stellar gangland chops portraying both Kray Twins in Legend (2015) will lead a cast which includes Kyle MacLachlan, Linda Cardellini, Jack Lowden and Matt Dillon.
El-P shared a picture of himself onset with Hardy, who looks to be deep in character already.
“cats out the bag. i’m scoring FONZO. psyched to get the chance to do this shit. in celebration, here’s the only picture i can possibly say i arguably look more handsome than tom hardy in. thanks to everyone involved for giving me this opportunity to get weird.”

El-P also announced in a press release that he is “thrilled to be a part of this movie, and unashamedly gushed how he is also a “huge fan of everyone involved.”
For his part, Josh Trank is an immense fan of Run The Jewels, declaring in a statement: “Since I was 14 years old, El-P’s music has been one of the most important creative influences in my life.”
“There’s literally no greater honour for me than to collaborate with him today and bear witness to this next stage of his artistic journey.”
This is by no means El-P’s first foray into the world of movie music. He was on the Baby Driver soundtrack last year, and only last month shared a section of the demo score he wrote for Blade Runner 2049.
Even though the finished version was rejected by producers, El-P humbly confessed he was “honoured to even be thought of” in association with such an iconic franchise.
What an absolute gangster.
