In the same way Australian duo Jagwar Ma out-Manchestered Manchester bands in 2013, Brooklyn-based collective Eastern Hollows have done the same for 2014. Their debut album is a glorious collection of modern shoegaze anthems, all brimming with influence from the Madchester scene of the early nineties. The newcomers are streaming the album in full, exclusively on Gigwise. Listen below, first.
The 10-track collection is a warm, uplifting introduction to the US five-piece, who expertly mix mainstream melodies with skewed, psychedelic riffs and jangly, baggy beats. Frontman Travis DeVries takes inspiration from his Britpop Ian Brown and Brett Anderson, and the influence of these British indie icons can be heard throughout the album, giving the album a classic sound, harking back to some of the finest years in modern music.
This album is going to be an absolute essential on late, hazy summer nights on both sides of the Atlantic. Listen first below.
Eastern Hollows release their debut, self titled album on 19 May 2014.
