The world mourns today at the news of the sad passing of Sir Christopher Lee. The legendary actor died aged 93 died in hospital from respiratory problems and heart failure. The BAFTA-winning icon of the big screen and small stage will go down in history for his era-defining roles in the likes of Lord Of The Rings, The Wicker Man and - not to metion his status as war hero and inspiration for James Bond.
But, lest we forget, that one of the most remarkable things about Lee was his heavy metal career - releasing hard-shredding albums up until his 92nd birthday. Incredible.
So much did he embody the fearless freedom of the genre in all that he did, he even won the Spirit Of Metal Award at the Metal Hammer Golden God Awards in 2010. Observe and admire him in all of his wise and wonderful hard-rocking grace as he accepted his award below:
And now, to let his music do the talking - here are just five of Sir Christopher Lee's finest heavy metal tracks - from Symphonic Metal to Christmas covers. We'll miss you, Sir Christopher.
