If approximately (10,000-12,000 Gallons) first thing you want to notice is the color of the pool. If light green, it’s probably going to be pretty easy. If black, step away; do not proceed. If it’s black, it’s most likely better that the pool is drained and refilled with clean water. Dark green is still workable but going to take a while. Black most of the time means it’s been untreated for a very long time and there’s a lot of stuff on the bottom, which could be a nightmare. If you decide to clear the pool and need help you can reach out to us Vibrant Pool Services. We do pool service miami, we can guide you.

Here we go. It is best to replace the filter to make it a little bit easier on yourself. First, you want to turn on the pump and set it to run 24/7. Make sure all your suction and return lines are open. Except for maybe your vacuum line, since it’s probably not being used.

First Cleaning

The first day, you want to use a heavy-duty pool vacuum to pick up the big stuff on the bottom of the pool, ideally. But since hardly anyone has a heavy-duty pool vacuum unless you do pool service. You want to use a net instead to pick up the debris on the bottom. If you have a fine mesh net, it is best to buy a net that has bigger holes. Where you could see through it pretty easily. Otherwise, with a fine mesh net, you are going to struggle a lot.

Because along with picking up the big debris on the bottom, you will pick up a lot of muck from the bottom. Making the net very heavy and makes it feel like you’re picking up a lot of the big stuff, but you’re not. A net that has bigger holes will make it a lot, a lot easier to sweep the bottom while searching for big stuff. Making it easier to move around, not as strenuous. You could find a net here. On the Pool Zoom website.

So the first day you’re focusing on taking all the big stuff out. Make sure you thoroughly pass the net to make sure everything big is taken out. Then you want to clean the filter thoroughly.  Then you want to lower your PH to 7.4 – 7.6 so your chlorine is as effective as possible. Again, we are talking about a 10,000-gallon to 12,000-gallon pool. You want to add about 6 (2.5) gallons of chlorine. Which equals 15 gallons of chlorine. Next, you want to thoroughly brush. Then leave the pump running 24/7, of course. You could wait a day to let the water circulate an entire day or could attack it the next day, whichever you prefer.

Sometimes there is so much debris on the bottom that on the second cleaning you still have to pick up more debris from the bottom with your net. If so, repeat everything you did on the first cleaning. If not, and you believe you picked up all the big stuff already. Use your vacuum hose that attaches to your skimmer port to vacuum the bottom of the pool.

If you don’t have one, you’ll need one with a vacuum head. You want to hook it up to your skimmer port and open your vac to waste or backwash valve. You want to start vacuuming the pool floor very slowly. Causing as little disturbance to the bottom, so the algae and dust at the bottom does not kick up. Because you want to pick as much as possible of that algae and dust with your vacuum so it is taken out of the pool via your vac to waste valve or backwash valve.

Vacuuming should take you a long time, possibly 1-2 hours; that’s how slow you want to go. Then, once done vacuuming. You want to lower your PH to 7.4-7.6 again. Then you want to add 6 (2.5 gallons of chlorine again). Then you want to thoroughly brush again. Then you want to clean your filter again. Then you want to check your phosphates. If you have phosphates, treat for phosphates.

You want to repeat everything over again until you clear the pool. So you want to repeat the vacuuming, lowering of the PH, adding the same amount of chlorine unless its clear. Clean the filter, brushing, and treat phosphates of there is until all clear. Meanwhile, the pump is also running 24/7 nonstop. Also remember that vacuuming to waste is going to lower your water level. Make sure to refill the pool every day you clean it, up to the skimmer. So you have circulation through the skimmer. And so you can vacuum every time you clean.
