WarKings have officially unveiled their new single and a video for their Live is Life cover. The original song was recorded by Opus in 1984. WarKings are currently touring their latest album, Armageddon, which reached the top 10 slot in the album charts across Austria and Germany in 2025.
Warkings Wanted to Make the New Recording Heavier
Warkings wanted to reinterpret the song rather than just creating a cover, and to focus on festival-style choruses and a battle-oriented aesthetic.
The song evolved to include major audience participation and is an anthem for their recent live shows. It’s since become a part of their identity. The new version of the song features elements from the 1980s original, but the material is being adapted to the band’s heavier sound and more theatrical presentation.
Warkings’ latest album combines historical and mythical settings, but with a more modern production. It explores turning points in historic battles and warriors, alongside invasions. The album was produced by Felix Heldt and was mixed by Jacob Hansen, who has previously worked with Powerwolf and Amaranthe.
Members Representing Historical Periods
Some of WarKings’ members include the Viking and the Saxon, alongside the Spartan. They are on trend, as historical themes have been increasingly popular in the media.
Books like Odyssey: Stephen Fry’s Greek Myths have experienced a resurgence as of late. The book currently ranks first in Amazon’s mythology book category. Garner’s Greek Mythology podcast is also huge and has expanded to Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Audible. There are even slots with welcome bonus promotions associated with mythical games, including Gates of Olympus, which features the land of Zeus.
As WarKings draw directly from mythical figures and historic legends, it makes perfect sense that their music is surging in popularity alongside other historical media. The band’s song Maximus put them on the map, but their Live is Life cover has helped them to build on their current momentum.
The band is currently playing its new cover to fans across the world, as it continues its world tour. Even though the tour is doing well with ticket sales, the band has been dealing with a line-up change.
They have parted ways with founding guitarist Markus Pohl and have had to hire a stand-in to replace him for their upcoming shows in Germany. The band said that the parting was completely amicable, and that they wish him all the best as he pursues new music. In June 2026, the band announced that the Highlander would be joining Warkings, acting as a Scottish clansman and warrior.
He’s going to be performing with the band at their European festival appearances and hopes to add a new dimension to their music. After this tour, it’s expected that the band will return to the studio to get to work on their sixth album, if their historic pattern is anything to go by.
