When Murals Speak: Nicky Create on Art, Community, and Connection

“Stop being beige,” says mural artist Nicky Create. To her, it’s not just a punchy catchphrase, but a public service announcement to embrace the beauty of art. In a world saturated with perfected AI art and algorithmic photos, Nicky advocates for the slow, human act of hand painting; Taking a brush to the wall, one community at a time.

Her mission seems radical when everything is turning digital: art promotes conversation, connection, and simple pleasures in the places we live our lives. When you look up from your phone, choose to engage with art. Elevate your space and choose vibrancy over conformity.

Why a Human Touch Wins

The influx of computer-made images is far from replacing artists. Nicky believes that if anything, it’s reminding people why handmade art matters. A brushstroke symbolizes time and intention. For businesses, her premium hand-painted murals blend culture and commerce. It’s advertising that feels like personalized brand art, not billboards or mass-produced generic imagery.

Though she admits that some clients like to play it safe, Nicky’s gentle persistence usually wins them over to bolder choices.

The presence of a real person on a lift, painting in real time, often results in brand activation and brand events that demonstrate companies’ desire for authentic connection with customers.

Like Dopamine for Buildings

Nicky calls her approach “dopamine dressing” for buildings. These bold, engaging compositions interrupt people working on autopilot, giving them a moment of relief and joy. She treats homes and workplaces as living beings, begging for uplifting colors.

Her current push is for bold art in residential homes, to make people feel joy at home, to be an extension of who you are. She invites clients to be inspired by mural ideas inside the house. Growing interest in LA has led to requests for murals and large canvas commissions for private homes in Venice Beach and Mt. Olympus. It’s not just decoration, but a declaration of a daring, exciting identity.

Community First

As an international artist and female painter specializing in street art and interior design, Nicky’s practice centers on community participation. She hopes to encourage kids to play, paint, and express themselves rather than being secluded on their phones. She collaborates with them, giving them the confidence to continue making art.

In schools, these projects represent the building of confidence in the youth. She also paints in train stations, highways, and large building facades to “surprise and delight” people in their everyday routines. Even the smallest visual shift, she believes, can change how someone moves through their day.

Beyond the Gallery

Nicky’s portfolio spans commercial art, art activation, and art event work that turns passive viewing into an immersive experience. She has done an installation for Red Bull’s Organics range, hand-painted advertising for ING Banking, Bailey Nelson, two large advertising murals for AMMI Insurance in Adelaide and Melbourne, and a 16-meter live-painted grain silo for Pirate Life’s beer festival.

She has been selected for The Big Picture Festival and has earned two People’s Choice awards. With every commission, she prioritizes energy, joy, and community impact over trends.

What’s Next: From Australia to LA and Austin

Based in Australia with an eye on the LA and Austin mural market, Nicky is pursuing an international career.

From spending time in LA looking at the current art scene she has made some great connections and friendships. Networking in Venice Beach has led to meeting locals who want to commission her for murals in their homes and large scale canvas artworks. She has also met with Creative Directors of large scale businesses which could be potential commercial advertising mural painting clients.

Austin appeals to her because of its welcoming artist community which extends to the Galleries, Artist Groups and even the Austin Council. There is a warmth and southern hospitality that radiates through the city and the murals that are beautifying the walls. She has built friendships in the art community already and is part of a local Exhibition in October at Something Cool Studios in East Austin TX.

Though realistic about the challenges of establishing herself in a new market, Nicky Create is ready to help clients stand out rather than blend in. She advocates for radical uniqueness because when art speaks, people listen.
