Hmm, hard to know whether to list every band I own a record by, in an attempt to give the real picture, or rather to carefully compile a list of artists that will garner my profile with just the right amount of cultural kudos. To be honest, I''m probably more inclined to go with the latter but, having drawn this conclusion, I feel too self-conscious about doing so. And anyway, I''d probably just start lying about how much I love Can. I mean, don''t get me wrong, I like Can, and I love coming across new and exotic things, but if I were to honestly list my favourite bands/artists - those that have really meant something to me - then I''d have to say: Teenage Fanclub (though I don''t know why they came first), The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Clash, ABBA, Joy Division, New Order (I loathe this Joy Division/New Order tag the hacks are trying to impose on us), The Smiths, Dusty Springfield, Dexy''s Midnight Runners, The Flying Burrito Bros, Jeff Buckley, Love, Ennio Morricone, Curtis Mayfield, Buddy Holly, The La''s, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Miles Davis, Kraftwerk, Chic, Blur, A Tribe Called Quest, Television, Robert Johnstone, Nina Simone, Laura Nyro, John Barry, Eddie Cochran, Beck, The Specials, The Velvet Underground, Gil Scott-Heron, Tim Buckley, Aretha Franklyn, Captain Beefheart, Bob Dylan, Bob Dylan, Bob Dylan and...
